Book Reviews

Virginia M. Walsh

I got this to read on my train ride into work in the morning. I found I had a spring in my step and a smile on my face as I headed into my office on the first day (and then subsequent days). The combination of Spirituality, Intelligence and Empowerment creates a great argument why you can do anything you put your mind to. In this day and age, we are surrounded by negativity. This is a focused beam of hope that can only be a good thing for any and all of us.

I began reading Anne’s book at the beginning of the Pandemic as my career as a Physical Therapist quickly changed from treating patients to taking temperatures and assisting with Covid swabs speding hours under tents in very hot or very cold (two seasons) conditions. I thought to myself that I would remain content no matter where God put me, and I did just that. Since this was so mentally stressful and draining not being able to truly do what I love because of the greater need in mitigating the spread of the virus, but also placing myself in direct contact with the invisible enemy, I could only muster up enough energy to read a page at a time. I thought to myself that reading Anne’s book was sort of futile, however, as I read each page I realized the book was speaking to me. Even though there were not many words on the page, the words took me to many aspects of my current situation conjuring up new thoughts and feelings that I must have been holding deep inside for a long time. For a period of time my work became too exhausting to continue reading the book and I stopped halfway through. I stopped reading the book for about 6 months and it sat and stared at me every night before I went to bed. It was not until 3 weeks ago when I lost my job due to restructuring for “cost containment” that I picked up the book again to continue. The book then took on a new dimension as it began to give me the strength and guidance to consider beginning my own business, which had been a dream for a very long time. Anne’s book is like a living and breathing book. It speaks to you at a deep level. I have many sentences underlined for guidance. Anne created a God-inspired pictorial diagram that helped me to organize my thoughts and figure out what aspects in my life need to be improved upon so that I can tap into and focus on my core/Inner Spirit. Anne is a wonderful guide with great wisdom. I highly recommend this Small But Mighty Book!

What an amazing read. I went into this quick read thinking this will help me as a leader in my organization and while it delivers on that, it is so much more. The moments of inspiration in this book had me truly reflecting how I look at my daily behaviors. Affluent Minds is for anyone not just entrepreneurs but anyone looking how to better themselves.

Dr. Arvizu’s wisdom and extensive coaching experience shine through in this easy-to-read, and practical, book on repositioning your mindset. Her AFFLUENT MINDS acronym is a great reinforcement of the attributes needed to live our best lives. Appreciate the use of coaching questions throughout to further help with practical application of illustrated concepts in my own situation. Perfect read for those, like myself, going through a career transition that can benefit by reflection on our core values and a focus on the 10 disciplines that are key to sustaining and supporting our new mindsets on the journey to success. Looking forward to the follow up book!

I’ve already purchased five copies to share with a friends! If you seek perspective and awareness of how your mindset impacts your affluents, and also desire tools to self coach your way on your life journey, then this book is for you. From the corporate executive to the stay at home mom, there are great points for anyone seeking to make positive changes. I will definitely refer to the guidance offered in this book again and again.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in today’s world. Anne’s book is a quick read and it packs a punch. I appreciated her ability to provide a memorable acronym – AFFLUENT MINDS – and then build on each letter. Even more impactful to me was the “coach yourself” sections at the end of each of the “10 Keys to Any Endeavor” chapter. She asked me to consider important questions, and to use my imagination. The book made me present to how quickly the dialogue in our minds can slip away from affluence if we’re not careful to nurture the things that will allow our God-given gifts to flourish; and how easy it is to reconnect with those things that matter most. Pick up a copy today. Not only is it a quick read, but it’s something that you can return to again and again for practical tips. Highly recommended.
